Hey, Im new to this forum, but I had some questions. I recentlly bought a white '96 sunfire convertible, 5 speed manual with the 2.4 GT engine, tinted windows, 15'' motegi racing rims with the standard J-body gray interior. I bought the car for far less than its worth, though I had a few issues with the car that I didnt want to bring to GM and have them overcharge me for stuff I could probably do myself. Currently, I've been driving the car for about a month and a half, and I've noticed the following
1. Check Engine light is on, though car runs and sounds fine. 2. Blown window regulator on the drivers side, which has made keeping the rain out of the convertible a big issue. There is no problem with the top otherwise, though it looks a bit shabby. 3. She starts up fine 90% of the time, though sometimes when the key is turned while the clutch is pressed there will be no noise except for the running of the fan. She might do it a few more times after that, but it starts after a few turns. I was thinking something electrical? 4. Is there any way to shut off the annoying shift light in the console? Its annoying as hell, especially when its telling you to upshift when you are going uphill or to upshift when you are in fifth??? stupid stupid feature. Other than this, I've fallen in love with the sunfire. Its my first standard car, and I already love the greater degree of control the manual offers. It has quite a bit of power for being such a heavy car (mine weighs in a little over 2800lbs.) but I would like to improve on its power and handling. I'll post a picture soon, once I get a digital camera suited for the job.

Re: New car, lots of little headaches.
to answer #3: sounds like the clutch ignition switch (wrong name) is bad. My went once on a 72 EL Camino.
