Re: 5.3 to 6.0

Welcome to AF. Unless someone has actually done this successfully, no one knows for sure, at minumum the pcm programming is different, exhaust?, pcm harness. Let me know what to do is kind of an oversimplification, hold on let's see if there is more comprehensive advice coming.

Trade your truck for one with a 6.0 in it.

So Blender other than referring to some obscure chat group, what exact info can you provide pertaining to this swap, other than ignore someone with 40 years GM experience!!!???

What do you have to counter this info? Nothing, because the info is correct.

What do I have? I'm friends with my tuner (Allen Nelson), and he and I have discussed this swap extensively, as I was considering it, and he does them all the time in his shop.

Got something else? Didn't think so?

Who has 40 years GM experience?

And only the past 8 years has GM been using LS based engines, and only the past 7 have they been in the Silverado, so that other 33 or 32 years don't count for a whole lot, since these engines have little in common with previous GM v8's.

It's like saying you've got 29 years experience with an Atari 2600, so you should be an expert with my Xbox.

Re: 5.3 to 6.0

Actually the 5.3 to 6.0 is one of the easier swaps. I've done a 4.3 to 4.8 swap and I can tell you that one is a real pain.

As far as what you may need, of course you will need the entire functioning block, i.e. a pullout engine. The accessories should be the same: power steering, alternator, etc...The 4L60E I believe will mount up to the 6.0 but I couldn't tell you how well it would handle it.

Just do a little research. Blender's link should provide some helpful hints.

BTW: @ Blender...you sure seem to be getting under people's skin lately

It appears the only direct bolt in here and no reprogramming requirements are in you head and the total disrespect with it, I said someone may have more comprehensive info I never said it couldn't be done. There are always issues in this type of swap, so back off. Tell me you have done this yourself then I will sit back, done!!! You generated this issue by the ignore the post statement which was uncalled for, I never stated anything that was out of line. You were just being a smart ass and continue on that course, no reason for it.

Re: 5.3 to 6.0

Ok here is what I have. It is a 2001 silverado with a 5.3 and a 4L60E tranny. I have a 6.0 out of a 2003 silverado and a "built up" 4L80E for the 6.0. I hace a supercharger for the 6.0 and I am going to get a Nelson computer. I guess all I need to know is the wiring because it does bolt up to the mounts and from the looks of everything it seems to be the same plugs and everything on the harnesses. I want to see if anypne has done it yet because I really don't want stuff to fry. Let me know what you think.

And? I cannot help that other people are ridiculous.

I offer a source of help to people, and someone gets all huffy and dismisses it because I haven't done the swap personally.

Where's slowprocess?

AFAIK, since the 6.0 is off a 2003, you're going to need the TB off your 5.3.

Also, to make the 4L80E work, you're going to need a modified crossmember; several places sell them.

Frankly, you'd do a lot better to ask these questions over on ls1truck.com; people there don't go apeshit when you point to work someone else has done.

Re: 5.3 to 6.0

I have no input here, but has anyone noticed that there are alot of these threads lately? I can understand it for a guy who just likes to do this kind of thing, but this it getting way common. I would have just bought the truck with the engine I want. Anyway, due to the animosity here, I think I should say no harm intended. I would be curious to know the story behind all these. Did you get the truck real cheap, even though it wasn't what you wanted in the engine? Good luck either way.

Re: 5.3 to 6.0

lol they thought "oh i dont need a really powerful truck" but then soon afterward said "screw this i want more power." im kinda doing that in respect to my 73 c-10, which i junked the old tired 350 for a 383 stroker shortblock that is currently hibernating on my garage floor for the winter. thats the cool thing about carbed smallblocks, you just swap em out. easy as pie

Typically the wiring for the sensors is the same for the 4.8,5.3 and 6.0 engines.
Possibly an aftermarket tune will be needed.
