More 4wd not working problems

96 s-10 blazer, 4wd won't work. When I push the button I hear the click sound like I did when it worked but it just won’t engage. I replaced the Vacuum switch and the transfer cable, check and replaced the Vacuum actuator (under the battery box) with a good used one. But still no four wheel drive. It looks like my front wheel will spin when the front tire is off the ground but not on the ground.

Re: More 4wd not working problems
Check the 4wd and ATC fuse. Then you have a sensor on the front axle to tell the TCCM that the axle coupler is engaged - unscrew that and push the ball in and see if it then works. Remove the battery cable for 30 min and see if the TCCM reboots. Last is the encoder motor that moves the arm for the vac switch on the case and engages the front drive shaft.

Re: More 4wd not working problems
I had exactly the same problem,,,the encoder would engage the front drive shaft and would turn the wheels off the ground but not on the ground. but I couldnt get any engagement to the front axles,,,I removed both front hubs and noticed that a retainment clip had broke, I replaced the clip,,(which caused one side not to engage) which will not let the front axle work properly,,,once I did that,,,all was well.
Good luck, only takes about a half hour to check and fix |
