05-06 Duramax

I've been thinking about buying a 2500 HD 4x4 Duramax and was wondering if anyone has had any dealing with the 05-06s. I've heard alot of good about the last 2 years and very little bad usually just by the hard core cummings guys. Thanks.

Duramax is the most high tech diesel engine made today.
05 and 06 are different engines even though they are both LLYs.
I would buy any Duramax truck.
If you look at 06 trucks, look at the LBZ vin code D...more torque and horsepower.

Re: 05-06 Duramax

With proper tuning, can't the duramaxes be made to get something on the order of 25-30 MPG?

Most of the people tuning DMAX's are doing it for more power, not fuel economy
DMAX puts out some outstanding HP and FT/LB numbers.

In 06, the engine went thru some major changes. Heads are different along with some internal changes.
FICM is gone and FP jumps up to 26000K.
06 LLY and LBZ are the same engines, just the tuning is different..LBZ has more HP and torque.

Mid year 07 will see the LMM with the particulate filter (to meet emissions)..the numbers will still be up there.
Except for injector issues with the 01-early 04 LB7 engines..there are not many problems with the DMAX engine...I have never had one apart for a failure.
Like I said..I would own one in a second...just waiting on the right one to come along...and the price of diesel fuel to come down
