Turbo Question

So a friend of mine has a set of stock turbos off of a MK4. He only wants $300 for them. I have a MK3. I was wondering if they would work well on my 7M. If so should I do a twin or single turbo set up? I'm not looking for massive horsepower. All I want is something a little more fun to cruise.

Re: Turbo Question

The simple answer is no. If all you want is a small bump in power then get a boost controller and piggy back fuel controller. When you do your fuel tune you should use a wide band AFR monitor to do the job. The stock narrow band isn't sensetive enough for tuning. You can push things up a bit, say 12-14 psi, and be ok. Make sure that you get an after market boost gauge to keep an eye on things. The stock one isn't up to the job.

Re: Turbo Question

Thanks for the advice. All that stuff wuold be great if I had a turbo already. Sorry, forgot to mention that this is going to be on a 7MGE. If I'm were to turbo my non-turbo would these CT-12 turbos would well as single or sequential, or would using a stock CT-26 be better. I also found a garret T-25 ball bearing turbo for Ithink $600 or $700. I don't have a lot of money, but I do have time, patience, another car to drive, and a friend that is an awesome welder and fabricator. Any help or insight on these turbos would be great.

Re: Turbo Question

Just swap in a 7MGTE and be done with it. They run about $900.

Don't crank up the pressure too high on that set up. The 7MGE has higher compression pistons that the 7MGTE, and will not be happy if you do.
