Lumina Issues Ugh...

Hi Everyone I have a prob with my 99 chevy lumina 3.1 it is leaking coolant from ????? it is leaking on the passenger side it looks as if the waterpump fan pully is sending it flying up to the hoodliner but my boyfriend looked at it and he said there looks to be coolant around the radiator cap hole ??? and I am so confused we changed out the thermostat just in case oh was that a pain !! but I cant seem to pinpoint the problem unless the waterpump is leaking . and does anyone have real good step by step instructions for changing out the water pump also ??? thanks for listening ...Pepsi

The water pump on your car is probably the easiest one there is to change. With the belt still on, loosen the 4 bolts that hold the pulley on the water pump. Remove the serpentine belt and finish removing the pulley bolts and pulley. Drain some coolant out to keep from making a big mess. Next, there is a triangualar shaped mark in the water pump casting that you need to reference it's position, as the 5 bolts that mount the water pump are not equally spaced, so the pump will only go on one way. Remove the 5 bolts around the circumference of the pump, and pull it out. Clean the old gasket material off the engine, being careful so you don't gouge the soft aluminum housing. Replacement is reverse of removal. Should take less than an hour total, half of which will be cleaning the old gasket off. Don't forget to bleed the air out of the cooling system when you're done, as these engine are notorious for getting air trapped in the cooling system.
