Hey. I would really really really really appreciate everyone's help on this.

On May 25, 1996, Bradley James Nowell, lead singer of Sublime died from a heroin overdose. Well, that would make this May 25 the 5 year anniversary of his death. So, as a tribute, I am trying to get as many people as I can to vote for the video "Santeria" to get it on TRL.

So, please, spread this message to any other boards you can, and tell your friends. So, on May 24th please please please please go to TRL and write in "Santeria" by Sublime.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!

I dont appreciate that

Rob, You kind of pissed me off with that comment. Have you ever listened to the song, Boss DJ? It is by Sublime and I think you should listen to it. A direct quote from the song is “a funky not a junky but I know where to get it”. If you don’t like the band or the singer then fine but get educated about his death. He was a man who was addicted, and enjoyed the heroin fix. Am I saying this activity is ok, Hell no. But please don’t use your ill-fated humor on our message board. Rest in peace Brad…

Rob944S

I asked for a voluntary favor, not ridicule.

You probably thought you might get a laugh or two out of your comments, but not from me. I found it quite offensive. You trivialized my efforts, trivialized his death, and thus trivialized a person who has had such a positive impact on my life, as well as many others.

His music means something to his fans, more than what the Backstreet boys can say (or, rather, their songwriters can say). Bradley was a great musician...an musical genius, in my opinion.

Thank you for pointing out his flaw, by the way. Yes, Bradley was addicted to Heroin, and he knew it and disliked it. Several times he admitted himself to get help, but to no avail. He sang that he knew it would kill him (i.e., "Pool Shark" he says "one day I'm gonna lose the war"). I am not celebrating his addiction, but rather his accomplishments and his life.

I understand that you probably didn't realize what your comments would mean. I'm just asking people to please, do me, and every other Sublime fan, this simple favor. It will mean so much to his fans.

RIP, Brad

I'll vote for it. Sublime is one of my favorite bands.

Rob, I have to say that you pissed me off with your comments. If you knew a damn thing about Sublime, you'd know that Brad was a great person with tremendous musical talent and a huge impact on his fans. If you're here to piss people off, go somewhere else. We don't need nor want your comments about Brad's unfortunate death on this board. It's insulting to have people making fun of the death of such a great person.

Rob, if you think Brad wasn't a positive role model, you're a complete and total idiot. Brad didn't want to be addicted to heroin. He even tried to quit. If you think he's our role model because he did heroin, you're completely wrong. He's our role model because of his music and the great person that he was. You've probably never even heard a single Sublime song in your life.

I actually like their music. It has a original sound to it.

You are missing the concept of addiction.
Addict to give up to a strong habit 2: one addicted to a habit, as to using drugs.
It's the same thing that causes Millions of people to smoke, millions of people to drink coffe, millions of people to eat chocolate! It's not a voluntary thing that he could just give up without trouble (such as speeding). He tried many times. He knew it was bad, but couldn't quit.

Well, Thomas Jefferson had an illigitamate child with one of his slaves. But, he made it onto US currency. And, believe it or not, MLK Jr. once picked his nose! It's true.

My point is that everyone makes mistakes or does something not perfect. That doesn't mean they can't also contribute wonderful things to society.

Amen.

The point is that if and when his video gets on TRL, it will not be a celebration of his flaws, just as it doesn't say "slave-holding-adulterer" on the $20 bill. It would be a memorial to someone who said things in his lyrics that bring on emotions that I don't understand and can't explain.

You might see Brad as a junkie, not worth the time of day, but this isn't for you. This is for his many fans and friends who still miss him and still find happiness in his music. You don't have to vote, but trivializing his life and his accomplishments is something that I see as completely absurd and inappropriate.

Please, can we just forget about this debate. I don't think it's necessary. If anyone doesn't want to vote for sublime, and doesn't want to spread the word...DON'T! This post isn't for you. But please...don't come here and trash someone I love.

RIP Brad, I miss you. Lovin's what I got.

I agree. Just because someone did something stupid and became addicted to it, doesn't make them a bad person. I don't think Rob understands the concept of addiction.

OH yes, I will remind you.

And, just to let you know why unite is celebrating...today would have been Brad's 33rd birthday.

"On the freeway in the county the sun don't shine.
I feel, I feel, I feel, I feel a Bati man.
And outside my cell deputies creep
And in this cell all I do is sleep and dream,
that I'm free."

"I feel like rocking, I wanna rock with you."
