Re: 98 chevy cavalier

Is the engine the 2.4 quad 4 or the 2.2?The 2.4 is the interferance and the 1998 and up 2.2s are noninterferance. If the timing chain breaks or jumps time on the 2.4 quad 4,the valves bend.If the timing chain breaks on a 1998 and up 2.2 breaks, the valves do not bend except the 1997 and down, the valves do bend when the timing chain breaks on the 1997 and down 2.2s.You check the fluid the same as the Malibu/Cutlass transmissions, there is a plug by the passenger axle area where it snaps in the transmission if it is the automatic. If it is the manual there is a dipstick and takes motor oil. There is one thing not to do to a 1996 and up 2.4,do not turn backwards or you will bend the valves.you turn the crank as you are tightening a bolt.
