alarm sys.goes off at random

I have a 95 grand cherokee ltd.,that has started sounding the alarm system
at random, only when locked and usually after sitting for numerous hours.
(around 3:00-5:00 am in the middle of sleep)
Ive looked at the first 30 pages in this forum and have seen a 1/2 dozen
references to what sounds like the same problem, but no solid answer to the cure.
Ive checked & load tested my near new optima battery which passed the test.
Has anyone got to the bottom of this problem and what is the cure?
By the way, this is the factory alarm system.
thanks,converter45

Re: alarm sys.goes off at random

All I can say is we're in the twilight zone my friend. I have an aftermarket alarm system that has done the same thing a handful of times. We thought it was a lol GHOST! Mine is a 95 as well. It's got to be some kind of electrical quirk. The weird thing is that my remote has a screen that identifies the intrusion and it always points to impact. Hmm...................

Re: alarm sys.goes off at random

Check the alarm button under the hood... Its on the left hand side of hood (facing the engine ) installed in the area where the fender bolts on. Its a little button with one screw going into it and one wire connected to it.

It may be loose, corroded or just plain worn out. Prolly 100% of your problem..

Re: alarm sys.goes off at random

i have the same exact problem, also a 95, and im ready to drive my jeep off a cliff because of it. i took out the horn fuse so i wouldnt have to hear that goddamn alarm anymore, but its still a major pain in the ass. i cant find the alarm button you talked about, do you possibly have a link with a photo of it?

yea i found the lil button you were talkin about and it seemed perfectly fine. i really felt like ripping the shit out of there, thats how much this damn alarm system has been pissing me off, but decided against it. and just yesterday my taillight stopped working. with new bulbs. so much for 156k miles and no problems. time for a new car

Yes , well just because the button looks fine doesnt mean it is fine. Just replace it with a $10.00 replacement one or just unplug it.

Re: alarm sys.goes off at random

Well, after unpluging the hood switch and locking the jeep numerous times now,
the alarm has NOT gone off even after sitting for a couple of days!!
At this point,Im going to assume the problem is solved!!
Thanks for the advice
