93 Saturn Won't Start Dealer claim its a Bad Fuse Box
Ok my wife's 93 Saturn was running relatively good, she complained that it
would stall out occassionally. She had the car parked all day...came out of work and the engine would crank but not fire. Had the car towed to a Saturn Dealership...... Their vedict the fuse box had shorted and it cost over $800 to get the car back on the road... I think they pretty much took full advantage of the situation. At $90 an hour labor rate... it took them 2 hours + troubleshooting the problem and another 2 to replace the fuse box which was another $325. First I have never heard of a fuse box going bad (they claim the Saurn's fuse box has a printed circuit board), Second it took them 2 hours to trouble shoot a short circuit which according to them killed all power to the fuse box and third 2 hours to replace a box which has 4 bolts and a plug connector? Are these guys are rip off artist? |

Re: 93 Saturn Won't Start Dealer claim its a Bad Fuse Box
My 2 cents:
Don't EVER go back to that "steal"ership again. I think it's ridiculous and complete BS that they said the problem was the fusebox. I guess it's possible, but from what it sounds like it could be something as simple as fouled spark plugs. If your SES light is on, get the codes read and post them here. If you don't have a scantool or no one will scan them for free, you can sort of "hack" it since it's OBD-I, run a search how.

Re: 93 Saturn Won't Start Dealer claim its a Bad Fuse Box
i guess i'm the enemy here, but yes, it is very possible it was the fuse block. i have had many cars with all kinds of problems from a problem in the fuse block. especially no-starts on early model s-series. and it's very complicated sometimes diagnosing these things. sometimes i spend half a day chasing a wiring problem, and we only get one hour because that's what was promised up front.
and 4 bolts and a connector is an understatement. there are three connectors, two which come up from the bottom making it very difficult to remove.
