clutch pedal, to far forward

An 88, 5-speed manual, the clutch pedal close to the floor. It still engages and disengages the clutch but there is very little travel. I have read somewhere, but can't find it, that replacing the stock, clutch line with one that is a little longer fixed the problem. Just wondering if that works, or if it is something else. Thanks for any help

Re: clutch pedal, to far forward

As the clutch wears, it takes less pedal to engage and disengage the clutch. How many miles do have on the clutch? Length of the clutch hydraulic line won't make a difference.

Ditto that. Your problem is the clutch assy, not the hydro line.

Re: clutch pedal, to far forward

hmm, well i guess thats the issue then. Yeah its on a pickup i plan on buying this week, yeah guess i'll have to bring that by him. Anyways it has something like 144k on it. I wasn't told if it had a new clutch, but i guess not and was figuring not. Hmm, hey thanks a lot for the info though.
EDIT: i just thought if this, but it could have the fluid leak, like some do, and the fluid could be low, i guess thats another option, although its most likely a worn clutch

If fluid is leaking, then there maybe air in the hydraulic system. If you are pretty sure you want to buy this vehicle, then have a shop do an inspection before purchasing.

Re: clutch pedal, to far forward

my step dad owns a shop and i know may way around a vehicle pretty good. Yeah like i said its kinda hard to tell if there is an issue with shifting/gears as the clutch is going, but I'm sure its just the clutch, although it did go into and out of gears ok when i drove it. Anyways thanks for the advice
