Maxima Dies

Hi i have a 1991 maxima gxe auto and this problem has been going on for about a year and a half but now it is winter and very cold here. So anyway when i start my car it starts fine but when i put it into reverse or drive the idle drops and the car starts shaking like it wants to die, but it never has, usually i just give it gas and when it warms up it runs 100% fine, but until today it never died out on me, so i started my car to go to the bank, it drove good but it was shaky like normal, so i turned off the car and when i went back to start it, it wouldnt start, toook me about 8 or 9 tries b4 it finally started and when it did i had to keep my foot on the gas or it would die, i also had it warming up for almost 10 minutes the temp gauge was still cold and the heater was only blowing warm-cold air, which it usually gets really hot. I hear the fuel pump turn on, i changed the air filter which was really clogged up. Ive also changed the fuel filter, spark plugs, dist. cap & rotor, fuel pump relay, pcv valve, waterpump & timing belt, all recently. The only thing i havent changed or has never been changed i dont think is the sparkplug wires, i checked them by starting the car and removing one by one the idle is supposed to drop if its good, but one of them i removed and it didnt do anything so i think one of the wires is bad, but my dad said this car has done this b4 and it was the themostat but not really 100% sure.

Re: Maxima Dies

some more info, i decided to try and drive the car which was a bad idead beacause eveytime i stopped it nearly died out, but when i was on the freeway the temp gauge warmed up to almost the middle and then slowly went all the way back down to cold, then slowly started going bak up again but then i turned off the car so i didnt see what happened next. All of that was while i was driving.

Re: Maxima Dies

Do bleed the airbubbles out as FSM describes, fillup w/o bleed procedure (after pump change) is a direct road to warped heads, check p.8

First replace the soot hoses [salesmen call em wires], see http://www.cardomain.com/ride/748507/12

Replace (or swap with another grn relay) this engine cont relay

Re: Maxima Dies

Read until u reach here:"BV .....................Bleed Valve. Valve for bleeding air out from Cooling System. " btw, FSM tells also to jack front up.
(This doesnt affect idle.)

Tests wont help [as/if the cause is bad 'wires',cap]. Only replacement will cause difference: new crap cap, wires wont help either. Its possible to get 3 new [cracked] caps from a shop; u must inspect it before accepting.
