Engine Sound

So the day after the leak was taken care of, I go to start the car in the morning, and the engine was making a "pinging" sound inside what sounded like the engine itself. The higher the RPMs, the more rapid the sound was. It sounded almost like a baseball card in the spokes of a bike. I was in a hurry as my gf and I were on our way to MD for Thanksgiving... so I jumped in my Jeep and too that down instead... I wanted to take my chevy though to save some gas mileage... oh well...but going back, after I got back, I started it again a few days later after adding a half quart of oil and the sound diminshed within a few seconds, and hasn't made the sound since... any ideas? I can't see the half quart of oil making that much of a difference.

As some background information, the day before the noise, I changed the oil in the car. I used 10W-30 I think. I read somewhere that the V6 takes 4.5 quarts which i found kinda odd, but used that much nonetheless. After I changed it, I drove it around for a little while and didn't hear anything. The noise wasnt until the next morning...

Any ideas??? It hasn't done it since that one time... but I'm still a little worried about it.

Re: Engine Sound

It's possible that a lifter bled down, and needed a little run time to pump itself back up and self adjust it's lash. Did you torque all the rocker studs to the specified torque then turn the additional 30 degrees to seat the pushrod in the lifter?

I don't really know what any of that means.... you have to do that stuff for a simple oil change??

Re: Engine Sound

sounds like a coincedence...probrably a collapsed lifter, but if it's fine now, I wouldn't worry about it...
