Exhaust.

Hello friends, me again.

Some questions on Exhaust this time. I’m running a 98 GP GT with aftermarket intake. I have my mind set on the Cherrybomb glass packs due to what I've seen from them, and their cosmetic appearance. What I don’t know, however, is the stock pipe size. Also, many of them have slanted inlets / outlets. I was assuming that I'd want the straight through design, if it’s just a cosmetic difference, but then I realized there might be clearance issues. Usually this is something I’d just save and ask the garage that’s doing the install, but I’m having troubles finding time to go in, and I'd like all the parts ordered and fitting so I can just drop it off and get them put together. Also I’ve read about the Cherrybomb glass pack header mufflers as well. I was having trouble understanding what exactly a header muffler is, and its effect on performance and sound.

Thanks again,
-MrPockets

Re: Exhaust.

A header muffler is one that bolts directly to the 3-bolt header collector flange without any adaptors. This style muffler is totally irrelevant on your car, as there is no way to hook one up. Another performance gain if you haven't already done it is a u-bend delete. There is a u shaped bend (hence the name) in the pipe where the post-cat O2 mounts that is a restrictive place in the factory exhaust. Most muffler shops can eliminate it and install a straight pipe in it's place with the O2 mount out the side instead of out the top which is what necessitated the u-bend in the first place (for clearance).
