Re: Most incredible scale model i've ever seen

Yea I know, but everyone's saying thats old news, but I don't know how exactly old it is, so I kinda just assumed maybe he started a new one.

Old but good!
He is building other cars the same way. At least it says so at the video link above.

"The video is from a 1998 episode of "Jeremy Clarkson's Extreme Machines." Scerri has since begun construction on another 312PB, a 330P4 and a 250 GTO."

Re: Most incredible scale model i've ever seen

Yeah yeah, old post. Still worth looking at.

The thing that amazes me about it is not really that he built it. Any sufficiently talented and obsessed individual can do the work. The amazing thing is the reference material he must have collected for the car. Sure, taking bunches of pics and doing mechanical drawings is sufficient for things like the suspension, brakes, cockpit, etc. But you can't build an engine or a transmission from pics. So how did he get the references??

I suppose it may be best that I not learn that sort of thing. If I had access to that kind of reference for, say a 1973 911 RS (or even just the engine!), I'd give up plastic.

I'd like to respectfully disagree. All that is required to design an accurate functional engine is a few pictures, firing order, bore/stroke, and cam specs. Thats all. The rest can be pieced and puzzled together. I've been designing a Chevy 502 for several months now using only pictures and a few specs.

Re: Most incredible scale model i've ever seen

Even though it may be old, that was awesome to me. I have never even seen that before. That thing must be worth a ton to the right purchaser. He could easily fund other builds with the money from that one. Damn, if he gets patents on it, then he is set.

i seem to recall that he had a lot of help from ferrari, and spent 3 years on the blueprints alone.
