Re: MCL F1 Melbourne Australia !!!

Congrats on seeing an F1 - that's chassis #009. It's great to see an F1 being used like this. Your phone takes some really clear photos btw.

The standard F1 wheels are 17" in diameter. Tires on the front measure 235/45-17 and in the rear are 315/45-17.

Thanks for sharing!

Re: MCL F1 Melbourne Australia !!!

thanks for the info mate.

the phones a new sony ericson 800i with the 3.2megapixil camera.

so its a 009# is that the type of body or the actaull chassis no. ?
it would have to be the body type yeah ?

and how many of these would the be in australia ?? id say not many at all ?

the hot tip for the driver would be get it to the Northern territory befor feb. next year when they put speed restrictions on the 3 HWY's that have currently unristricted speed limits.

its a shame there ristricting the the HWY cause all the leading car companys will no longer be comeing to australia to test there cars, cause theres not too many places in the world where you can get a car to top speed and sit it there in a st8 line in 42c heat for hours

Re: MCL F1 Melbourne Australia !!!

#009 is the chassis number. See the second link on this page to see a rundown of all the road cars:

http://www.qv500.com/indexmclaren.php

#009 is no longer Magnesium Silver though. It was repainted what looks more like Dark Silver (like #012 & #045) after a heavy crash that occurred in the hands of a mechanic in Sydney while the car was still with it's original owner.

It's the only McLaren in all of Australia at last count. There were a pair of F1 GTRs that came through Maranello Motorsports in Melbourne a little more than a year ago, but both those cars were sold to customers outside of Australia.

I think you are mistaken on that claim - though you are not the first to make it. I have certainly never found any conclusive evidence that Lindsay Fox ever owned an F1. People "in the know" in Australia have stated that #009 is the only road car ever to make it to Australia and was only able to be imported with special help from certain government officials because of its center-drive seating arrangement.

Bill Gates is often quoted as an F1 owner as well, and given the fact he could afford to buy every single one that kind of makes sense, but again not an owner according to anything I have ever seen.

The original owner on #009 was Dean Wills. He sold the car to Tony Raftis (the owner of Maranello Motorsports) in the beginning of 2005. Tony kept the car for about 6 months and then sold it to what should be it's current owner, Barry Fitzgerald. You can find more info and photos of the car by searching this forum for those 3 last names.
