GPS feedback?

I'm looking into getting a TomTom as a gift for the holidays. Right now looking at the ONE, b/c it's in my price range and is really small and the maps are supposed to be really great. Anyone have one?

Re: GPS feedback?

I've heard bad things about the Tom Toms, and good things about a brand called Navman, but as the experience isn't first hand I can't vouch for it's credibility.

There is a wealth of information on the internet, make sure other people who have bought the model you have in mind have good things to say about the product and the company.

Thanks for the tip, Oz. I'm surprised. I've heard really good things about TomTom...My friend has a 910, which is supposedly top-of-the-line. Also, I have heard great things about Tele Atlas, the brand that supplies their maps...But I'm definitely interested in feedback of people that have used it personally...Thanks for the response!

I'm a truck driver, use it everyday all over, works perfect out of any i've tried. Heard bad stuff about tomtoms map sets.

Re: GPS feedback?

Really? I was just looking at a review site for the ONE and it had gotten some really great reviews. One of the things I read was that they use Tele Atlas maps, and that they were really reliable...

Re: GPS feedback?

If you only need a GPS navigation unit...then one of the Garmins would be a good bet. They're one of the oldest companies that make GPS equipment.

I personally bought a HP Ipaq PDA and then bought a seperate Garmin GPS10 bluetooth gps receiver for $100.

I can play games, watch downloaded movies, email, surf the web, listen to mp3s, read pdf e-books, etc.

I also use it as my navigation unit with iNav's iGuidance gps software (Navteq map data, same as Mapquest/TomTom) and the wireless gps receiver.

It might seem like a pain in the butt or more expensive than a standalone GPS unit, but all the extra features and entertainment options make it a lifesaver on long flights or car trips.

Here's the system.

Re: GPS feedback?

In case anyone else is looking to buy, i was on their site and saw that TomTom's giving a $100 rebate on all their GPS devices through Jan. 6th. I was psyched since I had finally decided to buy a ONE as a holiday gift...
