Re: Will BCM cause engine to die?

I have zero experience with BCMs but, from what I've read on this forum over the last 1.5 years I'd say no, it can't cause a no start/run situation.

There is always a "however" though. Looking at pages 7 on when you open this link: http://www.g35frenzy.com/downloads/2004/04_service_manual/K/bcs.pdf#search='Body%20control%20module'
you'll see "ignition" inputs to the BCM. Not positive but, these may only be for the security system.

Sorry. Can't seem to make the link hot. You'll have to copy/paste.

Re: Will BCM cause engine to die?

Thanks for the info Rip. And by the way thanks for the info you give You have saved me a ton of money. I did see a post where the cluster was changed and it fixed all of these problems What do you think. I have no dash lights at all now and have checked all the fuses

Re: Will BCM cause engine to die?

Have you tried the "bang on the dash" trick? If that corrects the lights it's a good sign there is a bad solder joint or loose connection on the cluster. A bad switch could be the culprit too. If you go strait for a cluster change get one from a junk yard. They are too expensive to just be swapping as a likely cause.

Are you getting a service engine soon light and fault codes for your "dying" problem.

Re: Will BCM cause engine to die?

I have tried the hit on the dash and no help and also the iod fuse and that doesnt work. That is what tells me its the cluster. Even the odemeter and drive selection works only when it wants to. I do have a check engine light and abs light when the guages quit but they go off after the gauges come back to life. Today is the first day that the dying has started. It happened 3 times on a 20 minute trip and when I got to my wife it started and I drove it on home.

Re: Will BCM cause engine to die?

Oh ok. Now your dash lights and gauges aren't working. If I understood you correctly you have another BCM from a junk yard. I believe you have to have the dealer reprogram it before you change it. Check with them. Slap it in. Should fix it. Pull the IOD fuse first. After that I would go to Autozone and get the fault codes read with a scanner for your dying problem. They do it free. You should have a code set since you got an SEL.

OBTW - If you disconnect the battery somewhere in the process of changing the BCM you'll dump the fault codes. Try to avoid that until you get the codes read. Or go to Autozone first.
