Magic Coke
...the drink idiot...
so a couple days ago, i pull a 2 liter of coke out of the fridge. i'm too lazy to get a cup, and since i'm gonna be the only one drinking it, i bring the whole thing with me and just leave it on the table next to my bed, for whenever i get thirsty... so, its been out of the fridge for 3 days now with the cap only loosely on, yet somehow, it hasnt gone flat... HMMMMM. even more surprising is that, although my place is warm enough for me to be comfortable with no shirt on, and the temperature is around 70-75 degrees, the coke is still magically cold and refreshing. i dont get it. i am kinda warm when i am just sitting here, but the coke is cool enough to be delightfully refreshing. there is only one explanation. well two. either that is magic coke in that two liter, and i'm gonna be rich, or that was some magic coke i did last night (just kidding about doing coke. thats a little to hardcore for me) really, how is this possible? |

Re: Magic Coke
Wasn't coca-cola invented in a bathtub? Either way, this is very interesting.

Re: Magic Coke
well the c02 can stay in with a slight seal, all it really needs is to build up just enough pressure to keep the c02 from escaping the water molecules its bound too. The coke isnt actually any cooler than the room, you need to remember liquids are alot denser than air, meaning there thermal heat removal abilites are alot stronger than air. Same reason a 70F swimming pool would feel cold but 70F air would feel nice and comfortable.

Re: Magic Coke
Empirical testing (like get a thermometer) will probably show the cola to be the same temp as the room.
Of course, any expanding gas will decrease in temperature; so since the cap wasn't on tightly, it may be possible that the cap allowed a slow release of the CO2 and kept the cola slightly cooler than normal. But it escapes me why you'd drink cola in the middle of the night instead of water. Teeth will rot.

Re: Magic Coke
Maybe your mouth being warmer than normal was making the coke seem cooler?
