1995 4.3 vortec EDI distributor timing problems
who can tell me how to set my distributor in on a 1995 chevy s-10 blazer with the side mount plug wires and a 4.3 litrvi set the #1 cylinder at TDC on the compression stroke but cannot seem to drop the distributor in right to get the engine to start. my repair manual tells me to point the rotor at the #6 that is stamped in the distributor housing, and a bunch of people on this site tell me to point the rotor at the #1 plug wire on the cap. this distributor is not adjustable so once it is in, that is and the computer does the rest. SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO POINT THE ROTOR SO THAT I CAN ATLEAST GET MY ENGINE TO FIRE SO I CAN THEN HOOK A COMPUTER SCANNER TO IT!!

Does any body know the answer who has physically solved this problem? Almost every answer says "the manual says", I need to know the answer too! I am having the exact same problem but I want to hear it from somebody who has actually worked on a blazer with this issue. I already read the manual! One more issue, are there screw in rocker arm studs that do not have the positive stop shoulder? My blazer has screw in studs but there is no shoulder on them. They look nothing like the pics I've seen of the positive stop style.

Re: 1995 4.3 vortec EDI distributor timing problems
You first need to ensure that you #1 cylinder is in fact TDC. Using MT’s trick. Remove your #1 plug and stick a plastic straw inside the plug hole. Now turn your motor buy hand from the crack pulley (harmonic balance). I can’t remember what size socket fits in the center. Once you got the right size socket. Turn your motor clock wise and feel your straw for movement . Continue turning till you feel the straw start going down. Turn counter clock wise till you find the highest point. Now you should be at the compression stroke Top Dead Center.
Now drop your distributor in making sure the your rotor ends up pointing at the stamp #6 on your distributor. Use this URL to see what I’m talking about. Basically that’s it. http://files.automotiveforums.com/ga...hp?photo=51302 Post back and let us know how things turn out. |

Re: 1995 4.3 vortec EDI distributor timing problems
You don't need to use the straw method, try this:
![]() # 1 cylinder must be on TDC of compression stroke, not exhaust stroke. It will not run if you set it on TDC of the exhaust stroke. If the distributor will not "fall" into place, turn the oil pump drive as necessary with a long screwdriver to line it up with the distributor shaft.
