I have a 2004 Aveo LT M/T hatchback.
I accidently did something crazy with it one time. I was driving in an empty road, going around 80 mph, I saw a green light, I kept going, speeding so I won't get the red, but suddenly the light turned yellow and then red in a very short period. I don't know how I got this reflect, but I down-shifted from 4 to 3, still around 80 mph, and pulled my hand brake, and swishhhhhh, I drifted like crazy, it was my first time, fortunately I have a good reflect so I could control the steering wheel till I stopped exactly in front of the line behind the traffic light, it really pumped my adrenaline, I didn't realize that an Aveo could do something like that. I'm suggesting you this, if you don't have any good reflect, don't ever do panic braking with your hand brake! But if you think you're good enough, give it a try, it could reduce your braking length, and it'll look cool, hahaha...

Re: Wanna try something cool?
First off...that is really stupid of you to do in a parking lot if it is empty or not..Second..you could've flipped the car. Third and most important....YOU CANNOT "DRIFT" A FRONT WHEEL DRIVE CAR....what you did was stupid power sliding.

well actualy drifting and power sliding is the same thing. it is overpowering the rear wheels to get the car sideways. and altough "drifting" isnt possible in FWD you can get it to oversteer by say turning left and then turning right very rapidly. It worked in my camry at around 65mph but i had to tap the brake just a little to get it a sideways. here watch what this guys doing http://youtube.com/watch?v=QBPH94cYKO0 ps-it is kind of dumb to do that in an aveo because it is rather tall. |

Re: Wanna try something cool?
Hey, it's not like I did it on purpose, and I got full control of the car.
But does any of you guys heard about the front wheel Japanese style drifting? They spin their front tyres using Civics and Integras. This proves you can drift a FWD car. And yes, what I did is a power slide, but I also spinned my front tyres by doing extreme downshifting, and it's considered a drift. Note: I already remind you all not to do this crazy shit if you're not capable of doing. Try renting a circuit, that'll do good for ya'... Peace out dudes!

Re: Wanna try something cool?
Everyone's driving style is different. I drive my car fast, with 1/4 starts, and most of the time full throttle or 3/4 throttle starts. I go fast around corners and have even gotten it to slide around corners. I have driven the Aveo at 110+ with a stock engine. Its amazing to see that it can keep its own against a Supercharged Cobalt SS and an Impala LS.
Theres a cool video on youtube that shows some guys doing doughnuts in an Aveo... Didnt actually know that was possible as I tried it...guess I wasnt doing it right. What I really hate is the fact that you slam on the gas and it gradually picks up instead of spinning the tires. When the roads are wet, it will do it just fine. I guess I need to do some engine work!
