Grand Voyager starting trouble

My wifes 2000 voyager has been having trouble starting. It needs to be turned over anywhere from 2 to 3 times before starting. the Dealership said it was the fuel pump and charged us $600 dollars to replace it. I swore up and down that that was't the problem but of course no one listened. Now it is doing the same thing again not 3 days after it was "fixed" anybody that can give me a clue to the real problem would be Greatly appreciated

Re: Grand Voyager starting trouble

There's plenty of info on this forum about starting problems. Use the search function in the upper right.

Did it work great with the new pump for three days then come back? Had it worked great in the past then come back? If so, then we can definitely eliminate the pump.

My guess is the crankshaft position sensor is failing. When that happens the PCM activates the Auto Shutdown relay and cuts off power to the coil, injectors and fuel pump. The car will crank all day but, won't start. In your case it could be just slightly out of spec and on the verge of failure. It may or may not generate an error code and turn on your "Service Engine Light".

You can check fault codes by turning your key from off to on three times then leaving it on. The SEL will flash a 2 digit code. Flash, flash pause, flash, is code 21. There will be a longer pause between codes. Should finish with a code 55. Or...take your van to Autozone and they will read the codes with a scanner for free. They can get more specific error info with a scanner.

Some other causes would be fouled spark plugs, leaking/clogged injectors, weak battery, corroded battery terminals, and on and on.
