Clutch does not grab quickly

Hey all! A fellow SR20DE owner, Jason Schymanski just drove my '96 G20 because I kept saying it doesnt seem like my clutch grabs right. He thinks the same.

The car has 44,000 miles on it. The clutch grabs when fully engaged, but takes it's good ol' time doing it. The clutch does not slip, but rather slowly grabs. The grab point is probably a 2-3 inch pedal range if not more.

Any ideas? I have adjusted the cable several times, but can not seem to get a happy medium.

Thanks

By the way Jason has a 99 Sentra SE with mods outta the wazoo. He let me drive it tonight and it runs smooth. Fast!

Are you SURE that the clutch isn't slipping?

My car did a similar thing - when I changed gear under power and dropped the clutch again, it didn't seem to "grab" instantly and took a second or two to do so.

The clutch was slipping slightly, and all it required was for the clutch cable to be loosened off slightly. Because the cable was tight, it was like you were driving with your foot resting on the clutch pedal.

Now I've adjusted the clutch cable, the wheels will spin when you change from first to second under power (especially if the road is damp)... much better

I will try to adjust it again. Been there. Done that. But I will give it one more shot to see if I coulda tightened it too much!

Thanks!

Well Anthony. Here is what I did. First I over-loosened the damn cable and the clutch grabs about half way on the pedal. I then tightened it a bit and it starts to grab to high. I can not even deliberately get it to grab to low (close to the floor) no matter what I do.

That in itself tells me there is not much more adjusting to be done and that the clutch is going bad.

Any more thoughts before I assume it is the clutch going going gone!?
