audio system setup help

hello, i need sum help on finding an amp to power my subs. i have 2 12 mtx thunder5000 series in a ported box, sittin in my trunk. i didnt want to risk just pickin up ne ol' amp and blowin tha speakers up.lol........please help!!!!1

There are a couple of things to keep in mind when shopping for an amp. First figure out the nominal resistance on the channel/channels (ie. 2 ohm, 4 ohm, 8 ohm) then you need to figure out the sub woofers RMS power rating. This is really the only rating you should REALLY pay attention to. Try to match the rms rating for your speakers with the RMS rating of the amp at the same nominal resistance as the subwoofers. If you cant watch it exactly go a little more. Slightly underpowering a sub will do more damage than slightly over powering it. Those should be your primary concerns when looking for an amp however you should also make sure that the amp has a good cossover that coniscides with the subwoofers frequency response.

thanx dude...bty, where can i aquire the RMS info.ive looked on the speakers itself ,but it wasnt on dere. i did whoever remeber seeing ohm* i think....but possitive i didnt see rms...thanx agen..

You can find it in either the owners manual or go to their website but that might not be able to give you the exact number if you dont know what model year they are. If you cant find that let me know the power ratings you do have and I think I know where to find a formula to find the RMS.
