97 Venture 142kmi w/brake pad scrapping noise

After checking the one side where noise is coming from brake pad has half thickness left, wear indicator not touching but rotor surface is wavey, but no ridges in it. Could this be the source of the noise, or could it be the original CV axle or bearings or similar that need lube/replacement? When should these need lube, etc. anyway?
Scrapping noise volume remains the same but scrapping noise quickens/slows when accelerating/slowing down. Definitely related to something turning with wheel. Should I replace the front pads and turn rotors first or pull boots off axle and check for wear/suffucient grease, etc. CVs/axles/bearings all original with no lube or other work ever done to them. Ideas... Thanks.

could be a backing plate or a worn bearing

Thanks for the reply. Where is this backing plate, is it normal for the bearings to wear out after 142k mi? One thing I noticed today while driving was that the scraping noise seems to decrease as I apply the brakes which leads me to believe it is somehow brake component related. Thoughts???

the metal tin plate is behind the brake rotor if the noise goes away when braking it sounds like the bearing my be loose

Re: 97 Venture 142kmi w/brake pad scrapping noise

Did you check the brake pad that is on the inside of the rotor? My Silhouette started to make a scraping noise and when I checked the brake pads the out]er pad (the one you can look and see without taking the wheel off on my van) wasn't worn down much, but the inner pad was down to the metal. If that is your case then you need to replace the rotors/pads and grease up the caliper slides which you should do everytime you do a brake job.

Good luck.

Thanks. Both inner and outer pads had 1/2 left, but the outside rotor surface has a wavy (not grooves that you normally may see) feel. Will look at the bearing next. Hopefully just needs grease if that is the cure.
