2001 Eclipse Headlights

I have a 2001 Eclipse Spyder and I'm trying to replace the headlights. Theres some kind of rubber thing holding the bulb in place. I'm just wondering if anyones done this before and if you just pull this off or if theres another way of doing it.

Thanks

This should be in the 2000+ Eclipse section, so I moved it for you...

Re: 2001 Eclipse Headlights

the rubber thing on the rear of the headlight assembly that you said surrounds where the harness goes for the headlight?

there should be a small tab on one side of it, and it pulls right off. may take a little muscle the first time, but it loosens up just like banging on a screen door.

yeah...if all you are pulling on is the rubber piece and not the wires, keep pulling because you wont break anyhting. Just make sure you arent pulling the harness...I have feeling you will have some troubles getting the harness off the back of the bulb. Just make sure all the little plastic tabs are depressed and then pull like hell (NOT on the wires, only pull on the plastic connector). Good Luck, after you do it once you will feel stupid for asking because its real easy.

Re: 2001 Eclipse Headlights

i agree, once you figure it out, the next time won't take more than 5 minutes in and out. my first time took me 15 min or so per bulb b/c i had to figure it out.

after you get through the rubber grommit, you need to unhook the wire clip, and it will swing like a door to the side, at which point the bulb will be entirely free.

oh and don't touch the glass on the new bulb. if you have touched the glass, wash it off with alcohol and let it completely dry before you install it. grease and oil from your fingers ( no matter how clean you think they are) is going to cause the bulb to fry within a couple days.
