Another F430-Challenge-Not competition though-street.

Ok, like the others building one of these I got the bug and bought a couple. And since I saw Robi J's wonderful build I jumped on the train. I guess originality will come after years, but for now I am content to follow by others who know what they are doing.

So, Fujimi F430/Crazy Modeller PE:

Heavily modded engine bay thanks to Robi J:

So far, so good, body is ready for paint:

As I made it this far, I found one error in the body work, and since I primed the whole body I couldn't really fix it. So, I scratched it and started another body that will not have the flaw. Oh well, I will strip the other one someday. Damn.

So, hopefully there is a lot to come, I am thinking white for sure.

Thanks guys

Jon

A-ha Jon, very nice start and I have to say you've a very clean hand, well done the modifications on the engine bay frame.

Is that white primer from Tamiya ? Nicely sprayed on !

Looking forward for progress.

Bye: Robi

Yup, only spray cans for me so far. I have no idea what airbrush to get, but I really want to go down that avenue very soon.

Until then, it is spray for me. Thanks again for your inspiring F430, really made me get back into the hobby!

I am curious what you will do next. I know there are tons of places to do CF, so that is my next research for the project, any ideas?

Hint Hint

Jon, not many parts need to be carbon fibered. Look at these photos http://s11.photobucket.com/albums/a1.../Various/?sc=3 and you'll notice that only seat's back, central console, door panels, intake plenum and trunk cover are made of CF.

Bye: Robi

Sorry, I forgot to reply.
Well I'm currently working away from home and the F430 is standing still, anyway the next step should concern the cockpit, in detail I'm thinking to modify the ventilation outlets to make easier the painting and decaling process.

You guys make it hard to keep up with you. I´m desparate in seeing what you will come up with to give this Stradale the well deserved justice! Looks good so far and again, I only can stress how good this Ferraris look in white!

Re: Another F430-Challenge-Not competition though-street.

LOL, and this is the trashed body too!

I spent about 5 hours last night working on the new body to get it about 50% close to this one. Oh well. LOL.

Re: Another F430-Challenge-Not competition though-street.

Ok, here are some small updates to you all, but a lot of time to me, lol.

Finally got the cage built and it was a bit tricky, but eventually went together well:

Since I over primed my other F430, I started the other one, here are the front vents filled and edges worn sharp:

New body:

Next to an old friend:

Since I had to re-remove the vented areas on the rear, I gave myself a chance to mess one up. So, I removed it fully to the edge of the panel line and installed a thin styrene strip to fill the missing edge:

Needless to say, it worked really well and I am more pleased then just leaving it. I am sure no-one would notice, but I do.

Now, brakes need some attention. Since Robi J. has enlightened me to the world of Photoetch saws, my world is much easier. I removed the hubs from the back of each rotor:

Then I removed the caliper from the rotor:

My only issue with doing this is coming up in the next few pics.

Re: Another F430-Challenge-Not competition though-street.

In the past, I have used etched parts for rotors with no problems at all. This is my first attempt at using part etched rotors and plastic calipers together. I am very pleased with the way that the rotors assembled. It was nice to see that they offered two version for the front rotors. Here are the parts:

Here are all of the pieces for each rotor:

These Etch cutters are the best tool I have found for etching! I love them, and they cut through thick etching very easily:

Here is a completed rotor:

So, that problem I mentioned before is that the plastic calipers do not fit the rotors very well. I cut the plastic off well enough, but I think they wanted me to keep more on the caliper. Oh well, glad I have another kit to use! :

Another issue is the depth of the rotors in the wheel when assembled. This does not look accurate to me:

Here you can kind of see how deep the rotor sits in the wheel:

Here you can see the hub and the wheel together. I think I am going to remove about an 1/8th of an inch from the wheel and somehow add it to the rear of the rotor? We shall see>:

Well guys and gals, I hope you like what has been happening. I am doing my best to build fast and accurately so that the thread builds interest. I am no master, but I am trying! opcorn:

Re: Another F430-Challenge-Not competition though-street.

You're really fast Jon. I did not understand what was the problem with the first body ...anyway you're working very well. Nice work on the brake discs !

I'm looking forward to see more progress.

Bye: Robi

P.S. If you're interested, in the current issue of ModelerSite there's the part of the work my friend Alex did on the engine of his F430, the same I'll do once back working on the model.
