I have a clicking noise that happens when i accelerate, mostly around 2500 rpms and it's annoying the crap out of me. I was just wondering what else it could be. I've changed the oil, and the oil filter every 3,000 miles since i've gotten the car, and it seems fine right when i change the oil, but it happens very quickly right after the oil change, and it's not low on oil. I talked to a mechanic, and he suggested it was the egr valve, but i'm now so sure of that. I know at first it was the wrong gap in the spark plugs, because i changed them and it stopped the noise. But again it's happening. Any other ideas?

Re: 96 SL1 Clicking Noise
all 96s should have a plug gap of 0.040, not 0.060 as printed on some emission stickers. a bad EGR is not likey in my option but i won't say impossible, i would need to hear the noise for myself

Re: 96 SL1 Clicking Noise
well i already changed my spark plug gap in the first place, and that made the noise go down by a lot, but just a few days ago i changed the wires and cleaned the coil pack prongs (one was really coroded), and after that i've heard the noise only once, but if i've heard it once, then there has to be something still wrong with it. it's mostly a loose rattling noise, and not completely loud, but loud enough to were u can hear it. and also i've been told maybe it's the crank sensor, or the iat sensor, or that cuz i burn oil, it leaves carbon deposits and it could be from that, and that's what my mechanic told me i probably have in my egr valves passageways.
