Trans problem

have a 91 tracker, 4x4, loses alot of trans fluid, not on the ground either. Where does it go? also when cold takes a long time at 30 to 45 mph to shift out of 1rst or 2nd gear. finally, a breakthough, reverse and first gear have combined, in reverse, it seems to fight itself, in first it goes foward. will not go backwards, not even in low range. In drive, seems to take off in second, or third, shifts once, not sure if i have a 3 or 4 speed trans. automatic, by the way.

Any water in the fluid? Or, vice-versa? If so, bad radiator.
You could pull the vacuum modulator tube from the trans, and see if tube has fluid in it. It shouldn't, that would be bad modulator.
