Re: 99 GMC Sierra front end wobble

Did you check the the ball joint, tie rod, lug-nuts?

Is everything that holds the wheel on the truck tight?

Usually a popping sound when turning is the CV joint, it may also have something to do with the wobble.

Re: 99 GMC Sierra front end wobble

Welcome to the forum. I would start by jacking the truck up off the ground again, while you or a friend shakes the wheel up and down and side to side the other watch to see where the movement is coming from. Watch the ball joints to see if the steering knuckle moves, it should not (this is on the up and down test). On the side to side test check to see if the tie rod joint moves before the entire tie rod. A bad cv joint will not allow up and down movement, but it can cause a popping sound. If the spindle nut on the outer end of the drive shaft (cv shaft) comes loose it can cause both problems as well as wipe out your wheel bearring, a bad wheel bearring will also cause the problem. Hope this helps.

Re: 99 GMC Sierra front end wobble

I have talk to some people and they seem to think that it could be the bearings. The steering is slightly loose but the movement seems to be coming from the area where the front drive shaft goes into the hub. Any advice on swapping these out I have changed out the bearings on older solid axle rigs but never have messed with these independent susp. anything that i should watch out for? Thanks

Re: 99 GMC Sierra front end wobble

They are pretty strait forward, you can only buy as a hub assy. When you pull the wheel and brake rotor off there will be holes in the hub and if you slowly spin the hub and look through the holes you will see bolts, there should be either 3 or 4. You will remove the bolts as well as the spindle nut and the hub will pull off. You will reverse the steps to put the new one back on. It would be a good idea to get a service manual and get the torque specs to make sure that the hub is installed correct.
