Can't say I have nor know anyone who has but I figure the Cummins Turbo Diesel swap in would be cooler albeit a bit of overkill

Overkill how? You can still find factory 2wd Cummins trucks if you look around.

Re: anyone tried this

In 3/4 ton trucks. The only real difference is springs, so I don't know how that would be overkill.

That's not an answer dad

Seriously you don't find the torque of the cummins turbo diesel to be excessive for a 1/2-ton truck with 1/2-ton type usage? Take into account the fact that we aren't upping to a 3/4-ton or trying to make a 1/2-ton heavy duty, only thing changed is putting in the CTD with transmission.

Re: anyone tried this

hey this is what im going to do. i have a 99 1500 5.2L. its 2wd and if u go fast enough, u dont need 4x4 . but when my engine goes out im thinkin about gettin a cummins and puttin it in it. i have no idea if its possible and im sure im going to have to beef up the front suspension. but all of the power and torque i could get out of it would be amazing. its jus going to be a tow when it gets to that point. i wonder if thats possible. now im rambling

When the engine goes out? That could take hundreds of years.

Re: anyone tried this

I think you would find it cheaper to just trade it in for a 2500 with a cummins. It wouldent be quite as cool though but maybe you could just take off the 2500 badges and add the 1500 ones and let on its a half ton.......

Re: anyone tried this

The 1/2 ton frame will not hold a cummins diesel.. They are just tooo heavy.. need a 2500 or heavier to hold a diesel with confidense

Re: anyone tried this

Actually you can use the 47re tranny but the rear end would last till the first time you used the torque from the cummins and like was said, the rame wiuld twist

Re: anyone tried this

I beg to differ on the 5.2 wont die. Mine is breathing its last breath. I think I should take it out back and put a bullet in it.
