Re: SFC's are in! Going on Friday.
I was talking to the owner of a local frame and alignment shop around here. He has an 1100 rwhp Monza that he drives on the streets all the time, an 82 Camaro with a 406 putting down 450 rwhp, and a few other cars. He wouldn't install the sfc's on my car because he said they wouldn't do anything for it. That if I wanted to keep the car from flexing that I would need a 10 or 12 point cage but other than that I was wasting my money. He never would put sfc's on his Camaro and crap like that. Finally, he agreed he would install them for $300.
Another local business who primarily works on rail buggies installed them for me for $100. I'm more than pleased! |

Re: SFC's are in! Going on Friday.
i hate people that tell you thing that like will not work and are not worth it and your just wasting your money. Some guy at a local exhaust shop told me the same thing about my headders. He was like oh man u made a mistake there, i am like how? He was like they will barley add anything you won't even notice it and it is not worth the money and maintenence. I was like um i got them for $100 and all you have to do is put thread lock on the bolts and make sure they are tight every oil change. He is like man not worth it. people, man i tell ya.

Re: SFC's are in! Going on Friday.
This was the next step in the targa top. I'm going my next day off to pick up some new materials to see which works the best.

Re: SFC's are in! Going on Friday.
I'm not sure if this is normal with the sfc's or not. Now, when I hit a bump, from the passenger side is an ungodly loud thump, sounds almost like something snapping. I've checked everything and nothing seems broken. The sfc's are in solid and correctly (I think).
Now, the targa top. I've decided to get some thin plastic and lay over the top and take a heat gun and heat it into shape then fiberglass the plastic, then another layer of plastic, then another layer of fiberglass. That should be more solid, hopefully. After that a thin layer of bondo to smooth it out real good. I'm going to try that next. |

Re: SFC's are in! Going on Friday.
i dont think the fiberglass will stick to the plastic good. might just make a peeling onion of targa-ness like that. i remember reading plastic is not easilt bonded with fiberglass. cover the roof in masking tape, then plastic wrap, then glass it with one layer, peel it off the plasticwrap/tape protective cover thing, thats your mold, then you can add layers of glass to it till its thick and strong, cut to fit, bondo, sand, and paint

Re: SFC's are in! Going on Friday.
also make sure theres no air bubbles, they weaken the fiberglass alot
