Think I need a new engine wiring harness....

I've been having studdering problems with my 1996 Cherokee..... Got the codes and it said the #1 injector was stuck open, so I bought a new one, still problems.... get engine code, says lean on bank 1 , change fuel filter, looks like muddy water when I dump the fuel out of the "in" side of the fuel filter, so I figured it wasn't getting the fuel it needed. Still problems, but it doesn;t do it all the time, just every once in a while. It did it yesterday, check engine light again, get codes, says #1 injector wide open again...... I'm thinkin this is crap, its a brand new injector. So I think that maybe the wires are just getting really hot, since the previous owner removed the wire guard for the injector wires. So I zip tie the wires up off the engine..... guess what now, no tail lights and no dash lights....... I move the wiring harness around a little and thats what happens. So my wiring harness must be screwed ? maybe it got moved around a little to much and now it broke some wires in their casing? I don't know, any suggestions?

Re: Think I need a new engine wiring harnes....

First thing I would do is drain the tank....into a container and watch as it drains....condensation forms in gas tanks.....but if what you said is true then that ain't condensation....somebody is messin with you....
If the gas still looks like "muddy water" I would almost guess the whole fuel system MAY BE FUBARED...Injectors...filter...fuel pump.....
That's my opinion...just from reading what you posted........
As far as the wiring getting hot plus the "muddy water"might be time to either do some serious remove and replace parts....or get another vehicle

The muddy fuel sounds like rust. 96 was the last year for steel tanks. That would account for all your problems except the lights. Thats probably a lose connector. Take the connectors off around the area youve been playing in and "tweak" or twist the pins slightly with a set of needle nose pliers so they make better contact. Smear some dielectric grease in the connectors and plug them back together.
As for the tank. It could be there is alot of sediment in the bottom of your tank. Have you let it run real low on fuel recently? You'll probably end up pulling that tank out and flushing it. Might as well just replace it if you pull it out though.

not sayin it is muddy water, thats just what the fuel resembled when I dumped out the fuel from the old filter. Well I will mess with some things some more and see what I can find out.
