Question 1998 SL High RPM’s When Changing Gears!

Hi all..

We’ve noticed some problems with our 1998 Saturn SL Manual recently. The car is due to be serviced within the next week or two and the oil is due to be changed as well. It has about 125k miles on it, hasn’t been serviced since we hit a deer a year ago (approx 85k - 90k at that time). The accident last year did minor cosmetic damage and some damage to the water pump, which was replaced.

We’ve encountered the following problems over the past few months.
  • Slight Difficulty Changing Gears, isn’t smooth feels slightly rough.
  • Clutch is very, very sensitive at times.. e.g. when it’s cold.
  • High RPM’s in natural, changing gears but not at speed? Only when using the Clutch.
  • Service engine light is on but not always
  • Car sometimes (very rare) shakes quite hard just after starting up
  • Shaking noise coming from the front Left, Right when driving but not always.
Any ideas suggestions would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Re: 1998 SL High RPM’s When Changing Gears!

well the shaking sounds like the fuel pump is going bad ,if the car does not start.

and by serivicing to you mean like minor stuff like an oil change or more major like water pump etc..
