Question '90 CV smoking

ive had my crown vic for about 1 year with few problems until recently. about a week ago started running with a bad idle occassionally, then it turned into occassional stalling. problems have gotten slightly worse over the past week but 2 days ago the engine started smoking after about 15 min of driving and stalled wouldnt start back up. Next day started fine ran for 20-30 min with the same problem. im fearing the worst but hoping it may be something relatively minor. Similar problems??? Any Ideas??? Thanks in advance for any help - Matt

Where's it smoking? Tailpipe? Are you losing any fluids? When was your last tune-up? What do the sparkplugs look like? ( http://www.dansmc.com/Spark_Plugs/Sp...s_catalog.html ) Is it running hot? Have you done a compression test? Does your motor have a PCV valve?

The engine itself appears to be smoking, no loss of fluids. Havent checked the plugs. Not running hot, did the last tune up right after i got the car about a year ago. Havent tested compression and yes the motor does have a PCV valve
