Rivalry between american automaker enthusiasts

I understand the Rivalry between Ford, Chevy and Dodge, but what I don't understand are the fans of the cars. Especially the big Chevy vs Ford war. If you know something about the subject I'd like to hear your opinion. All I can say is that from hanging around chevy owners, I may never drive a ford and I don't know why, or a dodge. Doesn't mean I don't want to.

It's stupid. They're all equally wonderful. Quit bitching and be happy you have so much of 'em.

Trust me, it goes deeper than that.

I agree.

I was born into a Mopar family and that is where my preference lies when it comes to muscle cars but it's not to say that I wouln't buy a Ford or Chevy. There are cars from them that I would like to own. There are a horde of cars from foreign manufactures that I would love to own.

I never can understand the mustang vs camaro argument. I can totally understand how you can prefer one over the other, but I don't see how you can love one and hate the other. They are both pretty similar when it comes down to it. I love them both.

It's just like the Ford vs Holden debate I had when growing up (With Chrysler Australia the third party for a bit until they folded in the early 80's), it's pretty much moronic and blind brand worship, because for the most part the cars were both crap until very recently.

Yeah i know.. And it's Saab vs Volvo here. Just the immaturity of the human mind i guess. Just need to take a stand for something, how meaningless it may be.

The Chevy vs Ford vs Dodge situation here is alot different. Ford has a really bad name, because the Fords we have are german Fords. (Mondeos, Escorts, Fiestas...), wich are not popular among car enthusiasts. Mustangs are reffered to as just Mustangs, not Ford Mustang.

Chevy and Dodge both have a cultural nostalgic image here, since the Raggar culture breakout. And the list of marketed chevy's and dodge's here are short. The Chevy's I see on the roads are S10's, Tahoes, Astros, afew Camaros and afew Suburbans. Dodge's are RAM's, 90's - 00's Pickups i dont know the names of, and Magnums.

Re: Rivalry between american automaker enthusiasts

as far as who makes the best performing cars im gonna have to with gm. ford and dodge for the most part just put big engines in a tank and call it a sports car. not to say theyre not good looking or anything else but from a total performance perspective they are usually inferior. where as gm makes cars that can compete on a track with the likes of porsche and other top notch makers. now, would any of this stop me from buying one or the other? no, i dont give a damn who makes the car, a nice car is a nice car.

Are you sure? The chargers run in NASCAR, The viper used to run in LeMans, and currently the S7R is in lemans and Fia GT.

This translates to..... I like chevy for the corvette.

like i said, i wasnt applying this to all dodges. yes the viper is superb. but the charger is just a pig without major work. it gets mauled by cars in the price bracket below it on a track. not to mention the toyota camry and ford 500 also ru in nascar, does this mean they are great performance cars? plus what they run in nascar and what you buy from the dealer are 2 waaaayyyy different cars. the nascar charger is just a stock car with a fiberglass shell that says charger on it.

not really, the corvette is not the only car that can blister others around a track. look at the cobalt ss which beat the mustang gt around a track, and one with a lot of straightaways too. look at the solstice gtp which got a better lap time in a magazine test than the boxter s. there are plenty of gm cars that can hand the other 2 domestic makers their asses on track day.

Look at the mustang GT which will dust the cobalt in a straight line. I don't care what a race track says, a dragstrip will tell you ever time that the mustang wins. Ford has the GT, and as long as we are talking about cars we can't afford I will quote the GT's performance specs.

Re: Rivalry between american automaker enthusiasts

I use to hate ford, then i got a cougar , lol. And now that i think of it, i dont know why i hated ford. So i pretty much like all cars for what they are now. Fords, chevys, dodges are all pretty much equal in my book.

thats good and all but the dragstrip is not a total test of performance, it is only one dimension of performance. it totally disregards handling and braking which is what defines a true sports car, along with acceleration. and as far as the ford gt goes, sure it has great performance but for over twice the price of the corvette zo6 it is still lucky to even keep up. like i said i dont hate ford or dodge, i dont even dislike them. i just have a preferance for gm, and the reason is what i stated before.
