I learned two things today.

1). The rear disc brake setup on the 9C1 from '94 - '96 is said that a stock 15" 5x5 rim won't work on it due to caliper clearance issues. This reason, it is said, is the reason why Impala SS cars of said vintage are equipped with 17" rims. On the stock rims that I tried, there are no such clearance issues.

2). The "special" '94 - '96 "9C1" rims are the same as used on 1/2 ton 5-bolt Chevy trucks of '77-'87 vintage.

Just some useless trivia that I discovered today while searching over my about-to-be-installed rear disc brake setup.

PS Vader the combi valve on my car is functionally the same as the later car. The one in my car was used in 1977-1990 9C1 cars. The main difference is the bracket for mounting below the MC due to the ABS control unit on the '91-up cars ... more useless trivia!

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! I did!

Re: I learned two things today.

I installed the axle today, got it all set up and now that I've got everything bled out, I've noticed that now not only is the pedal stiffer, but the brakes are more responsive and the car doesn't 'nose down' as much on firm brake application, telling me that the rear brakes are more effective than before.

Disclaimer - I am not telling anyone that my car has that "magic brake mojo' that makes the rear disc work better than Chevy does - it still has bias for rear drums, but it could simply mean that the rear drums weren't working as they should - i.e. there might have been air in the line, which would explain the now-firmer pedal.

Re: I learned two things today.

Did that metering valve somehow mysteriously "fall out" of the combi valve unit?

Re: I learned two things today.

I didn't mess with it, to be honest. I was going to, but it seems to be working so well now that I may just leave it alone for the time being.
