Durango wont shift to third

I have a 99 durango, When its cold it wont shift to shirt, It will do the high rev, and I'll have to lay off the gas then most of the time it will shift in hard. as it warms it shifts but becomes late and hard. then when its warms . its usually shifts fine. any ideas about this? I changed the fluid and filter but it was exactly the same. Could this be a band adjustment ? and do you know the procedure?

Re: Durango wont shift to third

Curious, when you changed fluid and filter did you use the ATF+3 or ATF+4 fluid or did you go with DEXRON? I have seen similar transmission problems when the wrong fluid was used.

Re: Durango wont shift to third

Everything you said points to the inner seal on the Direct drum (3rd) being bad. This is a very common problem and a quaility overhaul kit will have a larger seal so this does not happen again.
