Last night on the way home my beloved 95 Bonnie just up and died. She has had a few hiccups along the way, sometimes she would just stop running for no reason. It may have been at 55 mph or 5 mph. No rhyme or reason. She would then start right back up, but no more. I checked her out today and she will crank like crazy but no way it will start. It appears I am getting no spark. I have also noticed in the last couple of weeks a strange coolant loss. No visible leaks, no "white smoke" from the exhaust, no idea where it goes.
I would assume that the two problems may be related but you know what happens when you assume. If anyone out there has any ideas I would be eternally gratefull. You see, Bonnie and I have this thing going and I would hate to have to let her go. If you drive a Bonneville you know what I mean. Thanks in advance, Geno |

Re: 95 Bonnie died- now no spark
Crank Position Sensor (CKP) may have failed. As for coolant loss, has it been a major loss in volume? Check your oil for a milky color, if milky, change oil asap. You may have coolant in the oil from an internal coolant leak. Just a few ideas to think about.

Re: 95 Bonnie died- now no spark
Mark,
Thanks for the info. Can I check the CKP without tearing apart the front of the motor? As for the coolant loss I lose as much as a gallon in about a week or so. I read somewhere about coolant filling up the upper manifold. Just where is the upper manifold located? As far as the oil the crankcase oil is fine but when I pulled the filler tube to get the plastic cover off the engine the tube had a thick yellowish buildup around the inside of the filler hole. May have been an oil/coolant mixture but I'm not sure. There doesn't appear to be any water inside the valve cover that I can see or feel. Thanks for any info you may have. Geno |

You need a engine capable scanner or lab scope to check the crankshaft sensor signal. A scanner will show RPM signal if crankshaft sensor is working. Also a code check may help. Do you have a lose of spark on all cylinders. Are you losing injector pulse. Does it have a coolant leak on front of engine or around the crankshaft sensor.
