rocking feeling in steering

Hey, got a problem with my 4th gen hatch. Getting side to side motion in my steering wheel at all speeds. The faster that I go, the faster it moves back and forth. Lug nuts are to spec, wheels not bent, and it is far more than a alignment vibration, any ideas?

Thanks, Evan

Re: rocking feeling in steering

Could be the hub is bent, also could be tread separation within the tires. In any case this problem bears investigation before something lets go. GL

Re: rocking feeling in steering

axel nuts ok? you recently do any suspension work? or mess with anything under there? make sure everything is tight. make sure your tires are all up to pressure and try spinning them with the car jacked to see if they are warped.

Sounds like either bent suspension components, misalignment, or bad tires. If it's progressively getting worse, i'd lean towards the tires. The suspension isn't going to progressively bend more and more.

Re: rocking feeling in steering

Hey guys, thanks for the help. I am starting to think that it could be tires. I have a cracked sidewall that I just notice. Could still be the suspension, as I just did a major suspension change. Disc swap, and Skunk2 coilovers, but it was not bad right after the swap, again progressivly got worse. I will throw another set of rims and rubber on that I have and see where I stand.

Evan

Sounds like an axle to me. Does it only do it under a load? As in does it go away when you let off the gas and coast, and it gets worse the more you get into the throttle?

no it does it rolling, can feel it even with clutch in rolling at 5 mph. Does not change with throttle
