New Project Car!... Need Engine Info
alright guys, i picked up a 95 talon with no bumpers, no head or tail lights, jacked interior and "supposedly" a blown motor for $350.... now here is my question, the motor supposedly has a bad crank in it... im lookin for all performance out of this car and not some flashy show car other than a body kit which i might as well get since it has no stock sides front or rear lol. Its a 420A 2.0 liter FWD... anybody got any sites or info on rebuilding the motor for big horepower? any help would be great.. thanks every1

Re: New Project Car!... Need Engine Info
![]() I'm sorry to be the one to break it to you but you won't be able to build the 420a into some big powerhouse. The best you could do is rebuild it with some strong internals and try to turbocharge it. You will only get a little more power than a stock GST or GSX has though... Not worth the money IMO... Actually, ya know what you should do. If the car is already semi-gutted and the motor is no good, then you should consider doing a swap. Find a wrecked GST or TSi and get the motor, tranny, wiring harness, ecu, etc out of it and strip this car and put that in instead. It would be well worth the time. Trust me... It won't be easy swapping it all in but you can do it if you get everything and do some research on it.

Re: New Project Car!... Need Engine Info
i already considered it but swapping all that would be rediculously time and money consuming... .. if i could build a 420a to anywhere from 220-300 horse i would be prefectly fine with it... so any info on where to get parts?

Re: New Project Car!... Need Engine Info
Uh, ok... You'll have more money in trying to build a 420a with that much power but do whatever you want with your money.

![]() All I am saying is this. You can dump a ton of money into a 420a and build all the internals and turbocharge it and crap and it'll have like 250hp. Or, you could spend the same amount of money, or less and buy a stock 4g63t motor and tranny and bolt it in and you'll have 210hp stock on it. Now, the stock internals to that stuff is good for 450ish hp without changing anything inside. You can throw a different turbo on it and a few supporting bolt on mods for cheap and you will easily have 300+hp easily. I'm not saying it in a '420a is shit sense'. I'm saying it in a money to power sense. I don't have a magic link to some site that will tell you how to do all this. Because such a site doesn't exist. If you do a little research between the two motors you will see how much easier a higher hp is achieved with the 4g63t. That is all I'm trying to point out to you. Take it or leave it. Its just advice. Nobody has a gun to your head about it.

And why are you guys even talking about a swap? Thats a bad idea. It would take far more money than it would be worth. That would be worse than building the 420a.

Re: New Project Car!... Need Engine Info
Wow this thread went south quick.
Ok, you obviously do not know what you are talking about. Just buying a new crank will not fix your blown engine. I'm guessing it spun a bearing so you will have bearings, machining, labor (and a shit load of that), probably a rod or two, pistons if one smacked a head, a new head if you had a piston smack the head, a new oil pump because thats most likely what caused the spun bearing, etc, etc. Then theres the tons of money for the turbo kit and support mods. For the body kits, those shitty eBay kits dont fit worth hell and on top of that you will have to paint them. You really should have done some research before you got that, if you do intend on kitting and turboing that car to 300 you have many thousands of dollars in parts and equally as many in labor.
