Heater core & possible short
I have a 95 Blazer LS 4WD I got used in August. Today while driving to work, I used the defroster & heat and after getting to work (a 60 mile trip) I noticed the steering wheel was really warm and the glove box was incredibly hot! I shut the truck off and a hint of smoke came from what looked like the bottom of the steering column. Also, I noticed the passenger floor board was soaked this morning and while it did rain last night my windows were all up. The heat worked fine this morning and I'm just wondering what you guys thought of the issues at hand.

Re: Heater core & possible short
Sounds like you have a leaking heater core. The wet floor is a dead give away. Some coolant could have be pushed through the duct and dripped onto some circuits under the dash.
You have to remove the dash to replace the heater core. Someone might have posted a way other than that though. I think shops charge around 10 hours for the job.

Re: Heater core & possible short
Thanks for the advice. Any way I can disable the heater core so it won't fry my electrical system until I can get it fixed?

Re: Heater core & possible short
you could pull the hoses at the fire wall and connect them together.
