Re: P28 Chipped ECU

what modifications do you have? If you only have an intake, exhaust, and a header; then it's worthless to get a chipped ecu. Even if you have more than that, you should get something a lot better than one of those cheap chips. All they do is advance the timing (not needed in most cases), and increase fuel to the engine. Adding more fuel will lower your gas mileage, and often create a too rich condition. Most people think that the more fuel you add the better, it's not the case at all. An engine like enough fuel to where it's slightly richer than lean.

Re: P28 Chipped ECU

amtel is just the name of who makes the chip itself. Like how AMD makes their processor chips. amtel isn't the program they use to tune with. And I completely agree with Schister66. Who knows if they are really going to change the base "Mugen" programming specifically for your mods, or if they're just going to just use the base one. And it's not a real Mugen programming, it's a company that stole the Mugen programming and changed it to meet their needs. I've worked on quite a few cars that had chipped ECU's (and I'm not refering to chipped as in hondata or chrome, etc), and they've all had major problems. It's almost impossible to get them to run right.

Re: P28 Chipped ECU

i'm going to say this once.....chipping your ECU is NOT a way to make power UNLESS you have enough supporting modifications that make the car far from stock.....the way you actually make power from "chipping" the ECU is by getting a tuned fuel/ignition map for your car specifically. When i boosted my GSR i had to have this done....it is to ensure that the car doesn't run lean or extremely rich.

You need a tuning software for one...you can use free stuff like Crome if you so desire. But i want to clarify this....you aren't going to see a significant gain from any of this without PROFESSIONAL DYNO TUNING. I paid $375 to get my GSR tuned....unless you're willing to spend nearly $400 to make a measley 4whp, i wouldnt do it

Re: P28 Chipped ECU

any shop that tries to sell you a chipped ecu and all he does is change the vtec engaement and changes the redline for you without telling you that doing that without being on a dyno is full of shit. reasons why:

1) if he knows its pointless, its not worth trusting him because all he wants to do is make a sale instead of leaning you the right way.

or

2) he doesnt know anything about chipped ecus and engine management systems.
