Adding a factory Temp/Compass mirror

Hi Gang!
I recently acquired a 2002 Silverado LS and would like to install a factory Temperature/Compass mirror. I need info on if the existing wire harness has a plug for the small harness for the mirror and or if I need a temp sender or compass sender? What am I up against?
Thanks!

Re: Adding a factory Temp/Compass mirror

The wiring may already be tucked up in the headliner. You'll probably need the sensor, though. Do a search on this forum, there have been lots of posts on this. Good luck.

Re: Adding a factory Temp/Compass mirror

The "compass sensor" is within the mirror (or overhead console display) itself. The temperature sensor is remote, and in some cases is the same as the IAT. The full-function overhead console displays (with fuel use, mileage, timer, etc.) have a serial connection to the BCM.

Re: Adding a factory Temp/Compass mirror

Not sure if this helps, just my 2 cents.....

When I bought my 01 Sierra, I wanted one of those compass/temp mirrors in the worst way. I priced everything out and it ended up being cheaper for me to get an aftermarket mirror kit off ebay and throw it in..

LIKE THIS ONE!!

For what it's worth....

Re: Adding a factory Temp/Compass mirror

Just letting you all know that responded that I found the wire harness in the headliner for the mirror. However, I could not find the remote temp sensor or wires that is supposed to be ether in the center grill section or at the passenger signal light side. I temporally spliced a used sensor to the two wires from the back of the mirror, but the used mirror I borrowed from the salvage yard today had only the compass and mirror switches on it. I tried a mechanic's temp/compass mirror and it worked great.
Does anyone know where and what color the sensor wires are in the engine compartment? I hope they are the same color as they are at the back of the mirror harness...green/white and black/white. I'll keep looking and I hope my buddy at the Chevy dealership remembers to bring an extra good mirror from home to sell me. You know, a guy could rig a double pole, double throw switch with two sensors, one outside and one inside.
