heated seats/side airbag

I posted this message in the Silhouette forum with no luck. Wondering if you guys can help me out. I have a 2000 Silhouette and the heated seat on the driver's side no longer works. Looks like I have to remove the seat to replace (already determined it is the cushion unit by using multimeter--ordered cushion replacement approx $70). Procedure in manual tells you to disable the SIR--both the front airbags and side airbags--before removing seat. I see no reason why I cannot just disable the side airbag. Anyone see any reason I have to disable all of them. The manual indicates you disable them all because of a 10 sec delay after power is removed by: (1) turning off ignition, (2) removing fuse or (3)disconnecting SIR wires. If I keep the ignition off and pull fuse I cannot see any reason why I cannot just disconnect the side airbag and pull seat. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Re: heated seats/side airbag

Pull the fuse and let the veh sit for a while before messing with the connectors to the SRS. Then just unplug the side airbag. everything else should be fine.
