Re: Gsr or Ls vtec?

LS/Vtec can be done for cheaper and make more power stock. The GSR is built by Honda and garanteed to be reliable and run forever. The LS/Vtec can be very reliable depending on who puts it together. I use an LS/Vtec and am very happy. Just make sure the person (being you or someone else) knows what they are doing when assembling the LS/Vtec.

GS-R, because it has a better block. B18C1 has a stronger.., cage thing, that holds the crankshaft in the block, and it has piston oil squirters.
GS-R ftw.

i think you're talking about the girdle.....but i'm not sure. That is a benefit of the GSR engine. It is a good engine straight out of the box. An LS/VTEC is only as good as the person who built it.

The oil squirters are a good addition, but only if you intend on not building it for boost. If you were to build the engine for boost, the oil squirters are blocked and serve no purpose...

Re: Gsr or Ls vtec?

Actually the oil squirters are block off in most every performance build. They are just one more thing to go wrong. Most engine builders will not use them. The bottom end is no stronger in the GSR. What needs to be done to the LS bottom end is the addition of ARP rod bolts because the LS rod bolts tend to stretch at high rpms like 7,000-8,000 which an LS/Vtec is very well capable of. Most guys who put together LS/Vtec motors will do this. To make sure just ask them to do it. Simple.

Re: Gsr or Ls vtec?

i guess after thinking about this, i dont know what i would pick.....it depends on the application and whether or not you're in a hurry to get it done. If you're in a time crunch, you can find a good GSR motor most anywhere. If you have the time to do the build as you so choose, then i would get the LS/VTEC...plus LS blocks are cheaper

Re: Gsr or Ls vtec?

would that also go for a B20B block? put ARP rod bolts for the B20?

Re: Gsr or Ls vtec?

If you could find on i would go with a gsr/vtec. I know it sounds wierd but its alot more worth the money. Find a Gsr block (if possible a complete block) and just get an ls crank and pistons. one its easier because the oil line is already drilled and you wouldn't need to get a bypass line. 2nd the piston bearings usually go on the ls because of the high reving and that usually leads to a huge problem but you would already have the bearing for the gsr block. 3rd if you decide to boost it then you will have the solid platform of the ls.(as in pistions and crank) but if you want you can still rip those out throw some high comp. pistons on it and by a pair of cams and have a monster. Either way you turn out good. I would recommend Gsr/vtec highly though.

Re: Gsr or Ls vtec?

assuming there is a y8 under your hood right now, id throw in some cp pistons and eagle rods and turn on the boost on that y8. that would be better than the c1 or the ls/vtec.
