Help please -2000 caviler dies on highway

Hi all - I could sure use some tips on what to look for here. I have a 2000 caviler and can be running down the highway just fine. All at once it just dies. Let it set for a minute or less and it will restart and may run for 20 minutes before dieing agian.

Something I have noticed that if I keep the fuel tank full it won't do this. When I get down to a half tank it starts doing it. I would think it is the fuel pump but it runs fine until it gets to around a half tank--then whamo-it dies.

I replaced the fuel filter but didn't seem to hurt. I did have some pretty nasty gas come out of the filter--Dirty looking.

Any suggestions would sure be appreciated .

thanks in advance--dad47

Re: Help please -2000 caviler dies on highway

Anyone have any Ideas on this subject. A little more info I have noticed is it never dies in town while driving around. But if you get out on the highway it will just die. Last couple times seems like it has to set a little longer before it restarts.

Thanks for any info or help you can throw my way. I bought the cChilton book for the car but it has no touble shooting in it at all.

Thanks Dad

Sound familiar... I just had this happen LAST NIGHT.... same car... died on the highway... I will try and full tank of gas trick today and try some fuel cleaner for the hell of it.

What did you find out was the problem with your car?

the problem you're having sounds like the coil packs, they get too hot, your engine dies, they cool down for a minute, then your engine runs fine for 20 minutes till they get too hot again, then it dies again, as for it only doing with with less then 1/2 a tank of gas, i cant explain that part
