Mpg?

I'm just curious what the average mileage is on their Taurus?

Havent' really driven the wife's since bringing it back to life, but I don't think it's doing so hot although runs smooth as a top and start right up, tho. If I had to guesstimate it, it seems ot be 14-16, with a lead foot knowing her. I'm tyring to get her to pay attention to how many miles she's getting out of each fil and how much at each fill, but that distracts from being able to get back on the road quickly

Also, the ignition lock is all jacked up on it, is it really as simple as it seems to swap?

Re: Mpg?

Yes the lock cylinder is a simple replacement. There is small hole under the trim. Insert small punch or screwdriver, turn key to on position, depress little pin, pull out cylinder. As for MPG, I dont know. I drive the other brand.

We're getting 26-27 city but that's not typical. It all depends on who many red lights there are and how long they are. Probably most people are getting closer to 20-21 city. For the lock cylinder we use a 15mm torx. Push in while turning to 'on' and pulling out. Takes a few seconds once you find the ball bearing that needs to be pushed

Re: Mpg?

98 DOHC Duratec engine getting 28 mpg highway. I commute 126 miles each day. 100 miles of that is expressway at 70 mph. 20 miles is rural country with a couple of stop signs. 6 miles is city, stoplight to stoplight. When my wife was driving it the first two years, strictly around town, it got 18 to 20 mpg.

Oops I pulled a

This holds true for a '92 (w/air bag) as well? I have to fix this as either A: she leaves it in ACC or RUN and runs it out of juice or B; leaves her doors unlocked and someone reaches in just fires it up for a joy ride like I did the other night.

Re: Mpg?

Yep. Ignition cylinder is same for air bag or none. Simple repair.

Re: Mpg?

03 Vulcan 20-21 city and never had it on a road trip. Been a few weeks since I put in Pennzoil Platinum suppose to increase mileage and almost ready to fill up so I'll let ya'll know if mpg got better. I don't drive hard but have slightlh heavy foot accelerating because I like to pull them G's.
Cheap thrills . . . . . Gas has been up and down and currently $2.08

"You ought to tell us where the $2.08 gas is, in Vegas is around $2.40." SC near Savannah, GA. It went up for Thanksgiving because they knew a lot of folks would be on the road but we look for it to drop next week then go up for Christmas holidays.

EDITED 11-28 Over the last week it has been varying slightly around $2.03 until yesterday when it shot up to $2.11 Hmmm . . . I always see it shoot up from lo to hi overnight but don't remember seeing it take a quick drop like it went up 8 cents here. Usualy drops a penny a day and rarely two.
We were in Savannah during T'giving holidays and gas was the same as here in SC and usually it's a few cents more in Georgia. Wierd going from SC to NC because SC gas $2.10 and time you cross the NC line it's $2.25 or more.

Re: Mpg?

Lately, I've been getting around 25mpg - 50% country (hills) and 50% highway. That is with the bad alignment, dissapearing fuel problem and wheel bearing.

I got 34 on the highway on a road trip with it before.

Re: Mpg?

I have a 2002 Taurus with Vulcan engine. Around town driving has ranged from 19 to 21 depending on amount of 45mph or higher type driving. If the car just goes back and forth in traffic I get 19 mpg. I don't think I've taken it on a long highway trip to measure pure highway mileage.

Re: Mpg?

I get about 18-20 in the city in my 99 Taurus. I rarely take it on the interstate for extended periods so I don't know what the highway mileage is.

Not sure. If you want to figure out your gas mileage, fill the tank and reset the trip meter. When you go to fill up next time, divide how many miles you went by how many gallons it took to fill the tank.

Re: Mpg?

Understood, easier said then done my friend, this is the wife's car that I don't drive it, so I get about 1/2 the info to properly diagnose the situation. I did get to drive it home on the holiday and I'm fairly confident it's misfiring atleast one cylinder.

Additionally it randomly stalls after starting

Re: Mpg?

If it truly is misfiring, a scan tool with the ability to monitor component parameters / I/M Readiness should be able to indicate which cylinder is misfiring, even if it is not misfiring enough to set a check engine light.
