knocking at bottom of engine...

99 2.4GT sunfire. This issue just started very recently.

Has good horsepower, runs good on idle, however any accelerations there is knocking noise on the buttom of the engine or cranck shaft, it also sounds like there is rattling on the valve cover. Has anyone experienced this and/or know what this might be.

Any help will be appreciated.

Re: knocking at bottom of engine...

rod bearing is going out. oil system on the 2.4L was horrible. the rattling could be lifters or tick from too low a fuel grade.

good luck, my cavalier z24 has gone through 2 motors, and now it's third. same problem, engine is poohced. cheaper to buy a used motor from the wreckers and throw it in.
