Headlights, horn, power locks suddenly die on 89 Caprice Classic
My brother has an 89 Caprice classic which has been running well since he bought it last winter.
Last night, he went to drive the car, got down the road about a mile when his headlights, horn and power windows suddenly died. The car still ran, had directionals, etc. He was able to drive his car 2 hours home today (in the daylight) and is trying to figure out what's causing this problem. He said he's checked the fuses, but it doesn't seem to help He's a single dad, presently unemployed & trying to fix this himself. He's looking for ideas as to what's causing this problem. Thanks, Pat's Sister |

Re: Headlights, horn, power locks suddenly die on 89 Caprice Classic
Take a close look at the fusible links near the starter (main positive battery cable connection). It sounds as if one of them is melted. They can be difficult to check visually, so give each one a gentle tug to see if it stretches. If the wire inside the rubber is burned open, the insulation will stretch.
